New Legislation on Smoke Alarms

The new smoke alarm and carbon monoxide alarm (England) regulations 2015 require all landlords to provde a smoke alarm on wach storey and a carbon monoxide alarm where there is a fuel burning appliance.

Landlords must ensure checks are made on the alarms on the day that every new tenancy begins. Although there is no specification on the type of alarms required, failure to comply with the new regulations will result in a penalty of up to £5000
