Students to receive extra £50 million in coronavirus support
3rd February 2021
The government have announced a payment of £50m to students across the UK in addition to the £20m offered in December.
The funding is for students who have been impacted by the pandemic, for example those who have lost income or require extra resources to learn remotely.
It will be distributed directly to universities who are responsible for directly assessing the needs of their students.
Universities minister Michelle Donelan said: “The additional £50 million that we are announcing today will mean we have distributed £70m for hardship in this financial year alone – on top of the £256m of government-funded student premium which universities can use for student support this academic year.
“This additional support will provide real, tangible help for those students struggling financially as a result of the pandemic.”
Students facing financial hardship can contact their university or higher education provider for advice and support.
